About Atul Dodiya
Born in 1959 in Mumbai, Atul Dodiya has studied at the Sir J.J. School of Art, Mumbai where he received Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. He furthered his academic training at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris from 1991 to 1992 subsequent to a scholarship awarded by the French Government. Through his paintings and assemblages, Atul Dodiya engages with both political and art history in a way that entwines global /public memory and local/personal experience. In 1999, the artist won the Sotheby’s Prize for Contemporary Art. His works were shown at the Tate Museum, London, in 2000, as part of the exhibition ‘Centuries Cities: Art and Culture in Modern Metropolis’. He currently lives and works in Mumbai.
