K.M. Adimoolam

Born in 1938 in Chennai, Adimoola studied painting from College of Arts & Craft, Chennai. Colour is what fascinates Adimoolam. It is this and not any specific imagery that Adimoolam uses to interpret nature, making his paintings abstract renditions of the natural world purely through colour. Nature is an inspiration for his works and he chooses to interpret it not through realistic landscapes or imagery, but rather through the language of abstraction. He works ceaselessly with great spontaneity and artistic freedom.

About K.M. Adimoolam

Born in 1938 in Chennai, Adimoola studied painting from College of Arts & Craft, Chennai. Colour is what fascinates Adimoolam. His early drawings of Mahatma Gandhi are superb illustrations of a life of intelligence, humility, kindness and otherworldly faith in all that is good in humanity. He has exhibited extensively within India both in solo and group show. He has also participated in major Indian Contemporary exhibitions in Hong Kong, Tokyo and London. He has received several awards during his career, including the National Award from the Lalit Kala Akademi in New Delhi. His work is in several collections, including National Gallery of Modern Art in New Delhi, the Academy of Fine Arts in Calcutta, Hyderabad Museum and with corporate collectors such as Air India and Tata Iron & Steel. Adimoolam passed away in 2008.
